Hi all,

I’ve been blogging at pixelrn.com since 2005. I blog about issues related to nursing, as well as some personal things. I guess I’m what you would call a “blogvangelist” because I believe that blogs will change the way people absorb media.

Hi Beth,

I envy you. I wish I were as consistent with my blog writing as you. I must have at least a dozen different blogs and ning social blogs. I also use wikis to collaborate with my students and colleagues. I need to find a perfect blog and settle down. I feel like I am all over the place.

I have two questions for you:

1.Do you expect comments on your blogs or does it make no difference to you whether people relate to your entries or not?

2. What do you get out of blogging? Is it like a personal/professional journal?

Thank you.

My wife Malgosia and I blog at Married Inc..

To answer you questions Nellie…

1. We don’t get a lot of comments, and I’m usually surprised when we do.

2. The blog helps us keep us in touch with people better. Its a good way for us to communicate with a lot of people at once, in a way that’s non-intrusive on their time. Also, I’d say we get a lot more personal emails from it that we wouldn’t get otherwise.

Hi – I have been blogging regularly since January. I like it, it gives me a chance to reflect on things that I do, which clarifies things in my head. Then I can go back and really wrap my head around what is going on. I find that I am more relaxed (well except for this last month—too much going on). I don’t usually get too many comments and certainly nothing of mine is going to change the world :), but it might be of some use to someone and that is good. I have found that blogging is very “me” oriented and sometimes we just need that me time, in the past it might have been done in a journal, but now it done and others can participate in your thoughts. – Harold

Hi, Blearners.

Two questions reflect purposeful prfect journalism.

My blogging hystory is recent. http://directorcsrd.blogspot.com,http://worldwidewisdomwebwithin.blogspot.com, are my sites. Now, my answers.i) I do expect comments and they have an honourable place there. ii) Lively serious reader’s enlivening comments on them make all difference to me. iii) My spontaneous ideas are repeated by a habit (of excellence as Aristotle loves to put it) and taste for it ( I would say) and therby I extend into the reader’s mind. iv) I get rich harvest of noble ideas as I re-read them and comments. v) It is impersonal, which means, a pure form/way of being personal (as Ezra Pound would mean it).

My blogs serve an inner mission.

Gathered at this table today are such different kinds of bloggers! I notice I feel really grateful to be making your acquaintance here at the LearnHub. I’m using my blog to find my way from one path to another, one career focus to another.

I was a media producer for the first part of my life - photographer, audio-visual shows, writer, editor... Then, as a communication consultant, I moved into "reporting" my observations right back to the people I was observing (instead of forwarding them on to editors to be published )... Now, I seem to be moving into the picture I'm seeing..and reporting to myself about who I'm meeting and what they're teaching me.

It feels like blogging is a process of deciding which reports I want to tack to a tree in the village square.

The amazing thing about the world-wide-ness of the web, though, is that there are so many potential trees to tack to…in so many villages.

On a daily basis, I have to ask myself which villages I’m wanting to be present in…and why.

At this point in my life, I’m vitally aware of my membership in a wild tribe of alternative, lifelong learners. My initiation to this tribe was soooooo long ago…and the tribe has grown and grown and grown. So many new cousins to meet now, on every continent.

My blog is at http://www.mawstoolbox.com.

@CSRD – I agree with your statement “My blogs serve an inner mission” I like that statement it condenses my paragraph down to a very simple, yet powerful statement. Because my blog serves an inner mission. Thank you CSRD for your “few” words of wisdom have made a good “difference” in this a very long day.

@MAWSTOOLS – I too am moving into my second career, my first was as a career military enlisted person and officer. After spending 21 years in the military where I was the “liberal” maverick who was tolerated as a good problem solver, but got on the military establishment’s nerves after a couple of years. Being outspoken and liberal wasn’t always the best mix in a fairly conservative organization. But compared to the teaching profession, I have found the military extremely “liberal” and progressive in many ways. Leadership in the military was at least willing to try new things to see if they worked better, but like I have said previously and elsewhere – “Education is the only profession that you can refuse to use new technology and not be fired.” I will not go into what happens when you try to get new ideas into a classroom, that can be really “interesting” (per Tsung Tzu)

But this area that Nellie has provided to us, has allowed me to “meet” others who are showing the initiative to continue their education and learning, which is a great thing to me. I humbly applaud your choices to continue your education in the non-traditional manner we are using here.

To answer your questions Nellie… 1. Comments are like my lifeblood. I thrive on them because it makes me feel connected to a community of nurses who care enough about their job to write about it. The more comments I get, the more incentive I have to keep blogging.

2. I blog for so many reasons; here are just a few: -I enjoy the creative process of writing. -I like staying connected with a community, that’s a step above just responding to message boards. -It’s helped me to figure out what the heck I’m doing with regards to my career.

I recently changed the location of my blog to Edublogs – http://hshawjr.edublogs.org/. I haven’t been around much lately, because of school and attempting to learn which applications to master instead of just the surface knowledge.

Beth,

I feel the same way. That’s why I am searching for educators who are interested in collaborating on how to improve instruction and learning. The question is what format is best for that kind of collaboration. I think the wikieducator may be the answer.

Hi,

Thanks for reminding me that brevity is the soul of wit and wisdom. :-)

I am presently taking the Learning4Content at WikiEducator. There are 9 Wiki sister units you can log in, free. And you are free to let go ideas on and on. And the pilgrimage to these 9 places are really rewarding.

Hi everyone – I haven’t been very active lately :(. But I am in the process of changing careers, I am going from being a teacher to becoming a government employee that works with Grant Administration and volunteerism in emergency situations. So I have had a great deal on my plate this last 3 weeks and I need to get through the next school weeks.

I also changed my blog back to: blogger http://hshawjr007.blogspot.com/

due to some independence issues at Edublogs (I am getting to be a crotchety old guy and want to do things my way on my blog) :).

So hopefully you will start to see more of me now that I have things somewhat under control professionally, what a rollercoaster ride it has been! Thanks Harold
